Early morning accident injures two in southern Maine

LEBANON, Maine — Two people are in the hospital Monday afternoon after an early morning car crash on Sunday in southwestern York County while authorities are looking for the driver and another passenger, police said.

According to a Press Herald report, the single-vehicle accident occurred around 2:20 a.m. on a sharp curve on Prospect Hill Road. Authorities said the Ford Focus was traveling eastbound when it left the roadway, hit a boulder and landed on a nearby lawn.

The car was demolished.

When rescue workers arrived on the scene, they discovered a man and a woman in the road, both unconscious. The man was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.H., while the woman was transported by ambulance to a nearby elementary school, then to Maine Medical Center in Portland by helicopter.

Authorities say the driver and other passenger may have fled the scene, as the hospitalized passengers, both 22-year-old Lebanon residents, acknowledged that four people were in the vehicle when it crashed.

The accident remains under investigation.
