CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine — Some year-round residents in the coastal community of Cape Elizabeth want the town to regulate summer housing rentals that they say frequently bring loud groups to their quiet neighborhoods.
There have been complaints about out-of-state cars parked along narrow roads and frequent, loud parties at homes frequently rented by the week.
On Monday, the Town Council is scheduled to decide whether its Ordinance Committee should consider setting guidelines for short-term rentals in residential areas.
Town Manager Mike McGovern tells the Portland Press Herald no one is talking about prohibiting property owners from renting their property.
But councilors may consider limiting the allowed uses of the properties or requiring additional fire safety measures.
