The Bangor Symphony Orchestra doubles your fun this weekend with its first Sunday afternoon pops concert in more than a decade, scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Winkin Stadium at Husson University. The event is free and open to the public, and there’s seating for 3,000, so there’s no shortage of room for concertgoers to come out and enjoy the music. Conductor James Fellenbaum will lead the BSO through a program of pop songs, show tunes, patriotic songs, movie themes and light classical numbers.

The second set offers up a special treat, though, when beloved Maine-based ’70s funk tribute band Motor Booty Affair performs funk and disco hits with the BSO. They’ll play songs by the likes of Earth, Wind & Fire, Barry White and K.C. and the Sunshine Band, for an outdoor orchestral dance party.

The event doubles as a tribute concert for the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Area first responders and fire and rescue personnel have been invited to be recognized during the concert, and firetrucks and other equipment will be on display outside the stadium. If the weather forces the event indoors, the concert will be held in Newman Gymnasium at the same time and date. For information, visit
