A Portland man wanted in connection with a March stabbing at a nightclub was arrested in Texas on Monday, police said Tuesday.
Abdi Awad, 25, was picked up by authorities in Sierra Blanca, Texas, which is located 80 miles from the Mexican city of Juarez.
“He was indicted earlier this month by a grand jury on an aggravated assault charge,” said Portland police Lt. Gary Rogers.
Rogers said the warrant stems from a March 6 stabbing at a Forest Avenue nightclub.
Awad has a lengthy record, which includes charges of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and robbery.
Awad is currently being held in Texas pending extradition to Maine, Rogers said.
