Two arrested in Machias drug bust

MACHIAS, Maine — Two local people were arrested Friday in a drug bust at a rental home at 8 Beal St., according to Machias Police Chief Grady Dwelley.

David Ackley and his wife, Rochelle Ackley, both 49, were charged with trafficking in drugs after a search warrant was executed at the home about 2 p.m. Friday.

Information was not available over the weekend, Dwelley said, because more arrests are expected and the investigation is continuing.

“Information was supplied by neighbors and community members,” Dwelley said. “We put the home under surveillance and known drug offenders were seen coming and going.”

Dwelley said a large number of narcotic pills and $2,000 in cash were seized. The pills are undergoing analysis at a state drug laboratory, he said.

Machias Police Department, Maine Warden Service and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency participated in the search and arrests.
