PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce is throwing its support behind the proposed $33 million renovation of the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Senior Vice President of Governmental Relations Chris Hall says the civic center generates nearly $20 million in annual economic activity, so it makes sense to spend money to fix it up. He says the civic center is facing obsolescence without the investment.
The renovations would make the civic center handicapped accessible, increase the number of concessions and improve the restrooms, among other things.
Cumberland County voters will get the final say in November.
