BANGOR, Maine — Police were called to State Street early Sunday to deal with “a man screaming that he was on bath salts,” Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday. The man was later charged with destroying the window of a downtown business, but no drugs were found on him, Edwards said.

While en route to the scene, Officer Jamie Fanning was told by police dispatchers that one of three people was “observed punching out a window at a lower State Street business,” the sergeant said.

Joseph Mailman, 24, of Bangor was found near 3 State St. at around 12:30 a.m. bleeding from his hand and had blood on his sneakers, Edwards said.

Mailman was charged with criminal mischief and issued a summons. An associate of his, Mark J. Elkins, 27, of Bangor was arrested on an outstanding warrant and taken to the Penobscot County Jail, according to Edwards. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
