BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor man accused of threatening a female relative with a gun was arrested Sunday evening and all of the weapons in his home were confiscated as a precaution, Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.

Frederick J. Brown, 53, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. after threatening to use the firearm against the 53-year-old woman, the sergeant said.

Brown was charged with criminal threatening and domestic violence and taken to the Penobscot County Jail.

The officer who responded to the scene collected all of the firearms in the house, which is standard practice when someone is arrested for domestic violence that involves a weapon, Edwards said.

Police did not identify the weapons confiscated and Edwards stressed that none of the guns were pointed at the victim.

“It was a threat,” he said.

Brown was released on bail Monday morning, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
