Maine’s oldest agricultural fair kicks off in Skowhegan

SKOWHEGAN, Maine — Large crowds are expected at the oldest fair in Maine as it opens its doors for 10 days of rides, music, animal exhibits, demolition derbies, harness racing and other entertainment.

The 193nd annual Skowhegan State Fair kicked off Thursday at the Skowhegan State Fairgrounds. The fair is billed as the nation’s longest continuously operating agricultural fair.

Organizers are expecting 100,000 people at the fair this year.
