OLD TOWN, Maine — A resident called police on Friday to report someone breaking into cars. When police arrived on Bradbury Street, Officer Ryan Fitch saw a man jumping out of a car, Sgt. Scott Casey said Tuesday.

Andrew Chalila, 20, of Bangor took off on foot when he saw Casey, discarding stolen items along the way, the sergeant said.

Fitch quickly caught up with Chalila, who had property on him that wasn’t his, including an iPod and GPS, Casey said.

Other stolen items were recovered by police along the chase route, the sergeant said.

Chalila was arrested and charged with burglary to a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, refusing to submit to arrest and violating bail conditions.

He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor and later released, Casey said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
