BANGOR — Penobscot Community Health Care has announced the commencement of the first year of its Pediatric Dental Residency Program. The two-year accredited pediatric

residency is the only one north of Boston.

Four pediatric dental residents have joined for the first year of the program: Dr. Shaun Elliott, Dr. Jeresia Choice, Dr. Sabita Rao and Dr. Erik Johnson. PCHC plans to host a total of eight pediatric dental residents in the second year of the program.

The Pediatric Dental Residency Program was established in collaboration with Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn. Residents will receive strong didactic and clinical training in pediatric dentistry with emphasis on pediatric medicine, orthodontics, conscious sedation and hospital dentistry, as well as training with specialists in all disciplines of dentistry, including orthodontics, oral surgery, periodontics, endodontics, dental anesthesia and special patients.

The Pediatric Dental Residency is directed by Dr. Sylvia Perez of Lutheran Medical Center. The associate director is Dr. Gaston Toolo, a PCHC staff pediatric dentist.

PCHC also provides dental services at Helen Hunt Health Center, 242 Brunswick St., Old Town; and offers Walk-In Dental Care 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Dental Center on Union Street. For more information, visit http://www.PCHC.com or call 992-2152.
