MANCHESTER, Maine — A young man robbed the Rite Aid Pharmacy in Manchester late Monday morning and fled on foot with an unknown quantity of the painkiller oxycodone, Maine State Police said.

The store is at the corner of Routes 202 and 17 in the town center.

Witnesses said the robber fled toward the back of the building and in the direction of the Town Hall, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The robbery was reported about 11 a.m.

The robber is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall and wearing a black sweatshirt, bluejeans and sneakers. Witnesses think he was armed, but no gun was shown, McCausland said.

A team of troopers and game wardens searched the area and were aided by a police dog and the state police plane.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police in Augusta at 624-7076, or 911 on a cell phone.
