BANGOR, Maine — People driving on Interstate 95 noticed a man assault and then throw a drink at his female passenger on Sunday and called police to report it, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.

“The call was that he was hitting her and threw something at her,” the sergeant said.

There were multiple reports, he said.

Bangor police caught up with the vehicle’s driver, Brian Caggiano, 28, of Veazie at around 9:15 a.m. Sunday after he exited the highway onto Odlin Road.

The officer noted that his 24-year-old female passenger had a red face, a mark on her neck and that her clothing was wet, Edwards said. The dashboard of Caggiano’s vehicle also showed the remnants of a drink, the sergeant said.

Caggiano was arrested for domestic violence assault and taken to the Penobscot County Jail. He remained in jail Monday night, a jail official said.
