Effort to squeal tires leads to crash, thousands in damage

By Abigail Curtis, BDN Staff

BELFAST, Maine — A woman police say was trying to squeal her truck tires one night last week instead lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a sports car, causing several thousand dollars worth of damage.

No one was hurt in the Thursday night crash, according to Belfast Police Chief Jeff Trafton.

Kristyn E. Wenz, 21, was issued a criminal citation after the crash for driving to endanger.

The accident happened on Waldo Avenue in front of Perry’s Quik Stop, the chief said.

Police estimated that Wenz’s 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck sustained about $800 in damage. But the 1997 Pontiac Firebird that it hit had about $4,000 in damage.

The Firebird was driven by Matthew Beaulieu, 22, of Northport.
