BATH, Maine — The Navy has a new supervisor of shipbuilding in Bath, Maine.

Capt. Robert A. Crowe relieved Capt. Dean M. Krestos during a change-of-command ceremony Thursday at the Maine Maritime Museum, down the street from Bath Iron Works.

Since 2006, Krestos has overseen the delivery of 19 vessels built at shipyards in Maine, California and Alabama. His son and two daughters — all in the Navy— joined in the ceremony as Krestos completed a 29-year Navy career.

The supervisor of shipbuilding administers shipbuilding contracts and provides on-site technical expertise and quality assurance for the Navy.

With the closing of Brunswick Naval Air Station, the Bath headquarters represents the Navy’s largest presence north of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, with more than 200 civilian workers and Navy personnel.
