Brewer church to hold benefit yard sale, car wash

BREWER, Maine — The Twin City Baptist Church will hold an annual yard sale and car wash from 8 a.m.-2p.m. Saturday, July 9, at 559 N. Main St. in Brewer. In addition to the community style sale they will hold a benefit bottle drive to support the Youth Group Trip to Indiana. All are welcome.

Holden church to host public supper

HOLDEN, Maine — The Holden Congregational Church will hold a public supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the church. The menu includes baked beans, casseroles, pies and beverages. The price will be $7 for adults and $4 for children. All are welcome.

Turkey supper on tap in Newport

10-year-old named Grand Marshall for 2011 Champion the Cure Challenge

BANGOR, Maine — Tommy Hosmer, 10- year-old Bangor philanthropist, has been named Grand Marshall for the 2011 Champion The Cure Challenge on Saturday, Aug. 20. Tommy will lead the 1K Family Fun Run, which raises funds for local cancer research. Tommy’s charitable spirit and dedication to helping those with cancer make him the perfect choice for Grand Marshall. Tommy’s grandmother died of cancer in 2009 and Tommy decided to help others with cancer through fundraising efforts. The funds he has raised supports CancerCare of Maine. New website assists aging adults with memory loss, brain health

BANGOR, Maine — Rosscare, in cooperation with EMMC, Acadia, Dirigo Pines and Stillwater Health Care, is assisting aging adults and loved ones with overcoming a growing fear and concern about memory loss and cognitive decline. Brain Health in Aging, www.brainhealthinaging.org, is a new website recently launched by Rosscare, to increase awareness about symptoms of cognitive decline and ways to prevent it. This website is a valuable resource providing information to the public and health care professionals. This project promotes Rosscare’s philosophy, which is to value aging and improve lives of older adults through a network of services that provide resources, education, housing and support services for older adults. Penquis receives grant for boot camp for new dads

BANGOR, Maine — A Boot Camp for New Dads Workshop will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, at Eastern Maine medical Center, 2nd Floor, Brandow Conference Room. Penquis recently received a grant from the Maine Children’s Trust to support dads focusing on first-time fathers, fathers of young children and fathers who are incarcerated. Penquis will also offer The Nurturing Father’s Program, a 13-week training course to teach parenting and nurturing skills to men with children ages birth to five years old.
