Police investigate reports of shots fired at Dexter home

By Diana Bowley, BDN Staff

DEXTER, Maine — Police converged late Tuesday night at 277 Ripley Road, where a homeowner reported that someone had fired shots at her house.

The woman, her daughter and a friend heard what appeared to be a rifle shot at close range at about 9:30 p.m., and they initially thought a transformer on the utility pole had exploded, according to Sgt. Kevin Wintle. Shortly after that first shot, however, the trio heard two more shots, again at close range, he said.

When Cpl. Alan Grinnell and Officer Dana Gatcomb arrived, they saw what appeared to be an imprint in the grass where someone had been, but a search in the area failed to find a person anywhere near the home. No bullet holes could be found in the home, but police planned to return to the scene Wednesday to investigate further, according to Wintle.

Police said they have a person of interest in connection with the incident.

Assisting Dexter police was the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department.
