Hermon man arrested on indecent conduct charge

HERMON, Maine — A local man who was given a disorderly conduct warning earlier this month after he reportedly kept exposing his buttocks was arrested Monday evening on an indecent conduct charge.

Stephen Thibodeau, 52, was arrested after Penobscot County sheriff’s deputies received a report that he was masturbating in front of his home on Route 2, Deputy Jay Hallett said Tuesday.

Hallett said that a woman was driving by Thibodeau’s home about 6 p.m. with her two daughters, ages 7 and 12, when the 7-year-old asked why the man they had just passed had his hands in his pants. The deputy said Thibodeau was intoxicated at the time.

The woman, who initially didn’t notice anything unusual, turned around, drove by again, confirmed what her daughter told her and called the police, Hallett said. At that point, Thibodeau’s boxer shorts were pulled down but the passers-by could not see his genitals.

Hallett said that when he arrived, Thibodeau was standing on his front steps, engaged in the same behavior. He said Thibodeau complied when he was asked to pull his underwear up.

Hallett also told Thibodeau to get dressed. Thibodeau complied, donning a pair of pants and a Hooters tank top, Hallett said.

According to Hallett, the antics continued at Penobscot County Jail, where Thibodeau attempted to entertain employees by making funny faces and striking ninja poses. He was released on bail later in the evening.

Among the conditions of his release are that he neither use nor possess alcohol. He also must submit to searches and be fully dressed when in public view, Hallett said.
