Victim identified in Ohio Street ‘suspicious’ death

By Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A man found dead under suspicious circumstances in his Ohio Street apartment earlier this week was identified by police Wednesday morning as Richard Jeskey, 53, but the investigation into his death is not complete.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday at the State Medical Examiner’s Office, but the cause of death is pending further investigation, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

Police were called at around 8:35 a.m. on Monday to 682 Ohio St., the location of Ledgewood 1 apartment complex. When rescue crews arrived, they found a deceased male and, because of the nature of his death, called the medical examiner for an autopsy.

The man’s mother, who lives in Brewer, told the Bangor Daily News on Tuesday that she is overwhelmed by the grief from  her son’s death.

“We don’t know anything yet,” she said. “It’s still under investigation.”

She added later that, “Right now, I just want to be left alone.”

Jeskey’s death is the second suspicious death reported in Bangor in the past week. The first death, also that of a man, was reported on Fourth Street last Thursday, and the name of the deceased and cause of death are being withheld, Reid said.

Edwards said Wednesday that Jeskey’s death is not related to the death on Fourth St. and is being investigated as a separate incident.
