Man hurt by homemade pipe bomb expected to plead guilty

PORTLAND, Maine — A 47-year-old man who lost part of his finger when a homemade bomb exploded in his home is expected to plead guilty to charges that could send him to prison for more than 45 years.

Robert Infante of Alfred is due in federal court in Portland Thursday where he is expected to plead guilty to at least some of the weapons and drug offenses he is facing.

He was injured June 25, 2010 when a pipe bomb he was working on exploded in the basement of his Alfred home.

Officials later found more than a dozen pipe bombs in his home and car.

The Portland Press Herald says Infante had argued the evidence seized from his home should not be allowed at trial, but a judge rejected his motion.
