Free summer camp

ROCKLAND — Rockland After-School Alliance is gearing up for its third summer of free day camp for Rockland-area youth. There are program offerings this year as well as schedule changes.

Programs will begin July 5 and are open to current Rockland District Middle School students. Out-of-area fifth- through eighth-grade students on a space-available basis. Camps will run at Rockland District Middle School five days a week through Aug. 12. Participants sign up for one week at a time. Campers may choose one week of camp or all six. Youth also have a choice of a morning or afternoon session. Morning camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon, and the afternoon session will begin at 1 p.m. and end at 4 p.m.

Campers are encouraged to pick a track — or focus area — for each week of camp based on their interests. Bobcat kids will play field games and sports. Fox kids will engage in creative art activities. Moose kids will spend their time volunteering in the community. Visit for program descriptions and registration information.

RASA, a 21st Century Community Learning Center Program, is a partnership between Youthlinks, a program of Broadreach Family and Community Services, and RSU 13.


Scholarship recipients

FREEPORT — Area students who will receive hospitality scholarships from The Maine Innkeepers Association Education Foundation, affiliated with the Maine Innkeepers Association, at the seventh annual Tees & Textbooks event at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 20, at the Marriott Sable Oaks in South Portland, were announced by Greg Dugal, executive director of the association:

• Belinda Place of Morrill, who attends Thomas College in Waterville. She will receive the Women in Hospitality Award of $2,500.

• Sierra Warner of Northport, who attends Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She will receive the Harold Nelson & Irving Small Award of $500.

WINTERPORT — Katherine F. Gower of Winterport received a bachelor’s degree in psychology May 22 from the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vt.
