VEAZIE, Maine — A Veazie man was arrested Friday on drug charges after police from Veazie and Old Town and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency reportedly uncovered prescription drugs, marijuana and a substantial amount of cash in his possession.

So far, Robert Coulombe, 56, has been charged with unlawful possession of scheduled drugs in connection with the drug raid at his home at Silver’s mobile home park on Chase Road, Veazie Police Chief Mark Leonard said Monday.

Leonard said that Coulombe, who since has been released on bail, remains under investigation and that other charges are likely.

Leonard said that local police had been keeping an eye on Coulombe and his alleged drug activity for some time when Veazie police Officer Justin Angelo was called to the trailer park for what Leonard described as a “citizen assist.”

The information Angelo obtained enabled Veazie police and MDEA agents to obtain a search warrant for Coulombe’s residence, outbuildings and vehicles.

Coulombe was arrested after arriving home about 11 a.m. Friday. Investigators reportedly found 37½ hydrocodone pills on his person as well as $4,211 cash they believe to be the proceeds of illegal drug activity.

During a subsequent search of Coulombe’s home, police found another 111 hydrocodone tablets, Leonard said. He said about a pound and a half of marijuana was found in Coulombe’s van.

Veazie officers who participated in the raid and investigation were Angelo, Leonard and Sgt. Keith Emery. They were assisted by four MDEA agents and a drug-sniffing dog team from the Old Town Police Department.

Leonard said Coulombe has an extensive criminal history. His most recent conviction stems from a February arrest in Hancock County, where he pleaded guilty to stealing items out of lockers at Ellsworth High School.
