Child found wandering Houlton streets returned to parents

HOULTON, Maine – Officers with the Houlton Police Department early Friday morning helped locate the parents of a young boy who was found naked and wandering the streets at around 3:30 a.m.

Houlton Police Lt. Dan Pelletier said Friday that a man who was driving in town spotted the boy, who he believed to be 3 or 4 years old, in the High Street area.

Houlton Police Sgt. Eric Crouse responded and the child was taken to the station. Extra patrols were called in to canvass the area, according to Pelletier.

He said Officer Erica Pelletier received a tip as to who the parents might be.

“They were located in the Pearce Avenue area,” he said Friday.

Pearce Avenue intersects with High Street, which is close to the police station.

The boy had apparently awoken and crawled out of his first floor window.

Pelletier said the information has been provided to the Department of Human Services, but the parents are not being charged. Their names are not being released at this time.

The lieutenant said he was unaware whether the child had done something like that before.
