Missing Belfast teen found safe

By Abigail Curtis, BDN Staff

BELFAST, Maine — A 14-year-old girl from Belfast who was feared missing Thursday night was found by police to be safe with friends on Friday morning.

Chief Jeff Trafton of the Belfast Police Department said Friday that the girl’s family had contacted authorities Thursday night with concerns about her whereabouts. He declined to name the teenager.

On Friday morning, police,  with the help of School Resource Officer Greg Stearns, found her at an apartment in Belfast.

She was reunited with her family at the police department on Friday morning.

A Facebook posting about the girl asking people to call police or her family if they knew anything had apparently become widespread overnight around Maine.
