An estimated 75 people took part Thursday in the “Champions for Choice: Reproductive Rights Rally” at Paul Bunyan park. Organized by the Mabel Wadsworth Women’s Health Center, the gathering brought together Mainers who are concerned about recent efforts in Maine and the nation that could make it more difficult for women to access such reproductive health services as abortions. “We want to show that Maine is a pro-choice state and we won’t let that happen here,” said Abbie Strout, education and outreach coordinator. Participants included lawmakers, feminists, medical professionals and a woman identified as “Anastasia B” who underwent an abortion.
