LaGrange school kids to hold fundraiser May 6

LaGRANGE, Maine — The Marion C. Cook School Odyssey of the Mind team is hosting a spaghetti supper fundraiser 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the Milo town hall.

The school needs to raise $6,000  to participate at the 2011 World Finals at the University of Maryland. They placed second in Division 1 at the Maine State finals in March.

To be division 1, students must be in grades three to five and meet academic standards. The team chose from six possible problems and decided to build an unhinged structure. The structure is made from balsa wood, must weigh 18 grams, and must have two sections that fold on a hinge to meet and become one structure. The goal is to build a structure that will hold a certain amount of weight. The team had to create a play based upon three hinged objects and the weight of those objects. They chose stamping out bullying as their theme.

Admission to the supper is by donation. A yard sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at the LaGrange 4 Corners store. For information, call 943-2196.
