Missing Portland woman’s remains found ‘in a remote area’

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — Police say the remains of a young woman who was reported missing by her mother last summer have been found “in a remote area the state.”

Portland police said Thursday that the medical examiner’s office has identified skeletal remains that were discovered last Sunday as those of 24-year-old Elena Lozada of Portland.

Police say they consider the case to be an unattended death with suspicious circumstances.

Police last year sought the public’s help in locating Lozada, who was reported missing in July. At the time of her disappearance, police said Lozada had been staying with friends after moving out of her Portland apartment with plans to move to Boston.
