Tractor-trailer accident shuts down Route 2 in Aroostook for four hours

By Jen Lynds, BDN Staff

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY GRANT TOWNSHIP — An accident just north of Macwahoc in Aroostook County sent the driver of a tractor-trailer to a Millinocket hospital early Wednesday.

State Police Sgt. Brian Harris said the crash, which took place in North Yarmouth Academy Grant Township just north of Macwahoc, happened at around 5:30 a.m.

Trooper Carmen Lilley arrived to find that Troy McDonald, 24, of Sherman, had lost control of his 1998 Peterbilt. McDonald rounded a sharp corner on Route 2 and lost control of his rig, which was loaded with logs. The Peterbilt skidded off the side of the road, struck a guardrail and rolled onto its side.

The logs spilled out onto the roadway, which was shut down for four hours while the tractor-trailer and its load were cleared.

McDonald suffered cuts to his face and was taken by private vehicle to the hospital, according to Harris.

He was treated and then released.

The tractor-trailer, which was owned by McDonald, had severe damaged and was towed from the scene.
