Native American writers plan reading event in Orono

ORONO —The Awikhigawogan: Native Writers Roundtable & Reading event will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 29,  at the foster Center for Student Innovation, 123 Long Road on the UMaine campus. Native authors participating are Lisa Brooks (Abenaki), Daniel Justice (Cherokee), Cheryl Savageau (Abenaki), And Craig Womack (Muscogee).

OLD TOWN — A baked bean supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Stillwater Federated Church in Old Town. The price is $7 for adults and $1 for children. For more information, call Peggy Manzer at 827-3847.

HAMPDEN — The Weatherbee School of Hampden invites Hampden senior citizens to a lunch and concert at noon Thursday, May 5, at the school. For more information about attending, call 862-3254.

GLENBURN —  The Glenburn School kindergarten registration for the 2011-12 school year will be Thursday and Friday, May 5-6 at the school. Children who will be 5 years old on or before Oct. 15 are eligible to attend. A birth certificate and immunization records are required when registering. All parents must call for an appointment by calling 947-8769 ext. 308.
