Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race to cause traffic delays, detour

Updated:

BANGOR, Maine — The annual Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race on Saturday will cause some minor traffic delays and a detour at the Six Mile Falls Bridge on Broadway, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edward said in a press release.

Inbound traffic on Broadway, Route 15, will be diverted at Six Mile Falls onto the Finson Road to Ohio Street between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“To avoid delays due to expected congestion on the bridge motorists are encouraged to use the McCarty Road in Glenburn to access Ohio Street,” Edwards said.

Signs will be posted to assist motorists.

Traffic on the Six Mile Falls Bridge will be reduced to one lane for outbound traffic due to heavy pedestrian traffic.

“This may produce some minor traffic delays,” the sergeant said. “Motorists are asked to use caution when approaching this area on Saturday.”

Traffic on Valley Avenue, from Fourteenth Street and Kenduskeag Avenue, will be one-way to Bruce Road and parking will be limited along Valley Avenue.

Bruce Road will be closed to traffic from Kenduskeag Avenue.

“Motorists are reminded to use caution when traveling through the Six Mile Falls area of Broadway due to a large number of spectators and pedestrians walking across the bridge,” Edwards said. “The Bangor Police Department and the Bangor Parks and Recreation Department regret any inconvenience caused by these detours and appreciate your cooperation.”
