Anonymous tip leads to wanted man

Posted April 13, 2011, at 10:25 p.m.

A wanted Bangor man is behind bars thanks to an anonymous tip given to Bangor police at noon Wednesday, Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

Glenn Curtis, 31, who was wanted on two outstanding warrants for unpaid fines that total $984, was found at Kmart after police received a tip he was shopping there, the sergeant said. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail after his arrest.

Curtis was convicted of harassment by phone and failed to pay his fine, so a warrant was issued for his arrest, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

The smell of marijuana brought University of Maine police late Monday to a dorm room at Kennebec Hall, where they found a student with pot and a pot pipe, university spokesman Joe Carr said Wednesday.

Michael Fithian, 20, a resident of the dorm, was charged at around 11:30 p.m. with possession of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia, and since he had a university police drug charge from earlier this year, according to a jail official at Penobscot County Jail, he was charged with violation of bail.
