DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — The hard work Lucy McDermott, 17, has contributed to her community, school and Key Club was recognized on April 2 when the Foxcroft Academy junior was awarded the New England Key Club District Advisor’s Award.
The award, which is given to one Key Club member for outstanding contributions to the Key Club in the New England District, was presented at the 62nd annual New England District Key Club Educational Conference held in Springfield, Mass.
‘’It was a really big honor for me to get this award,’’ McDermott said Thursday. ‘’I’ve been in Key Club for three years now and this past year I served on the executive board, but I didn’t see this award coming.’’
As assistant treasurer of the New England District this past year, McDermott said she helped run the district, which consists of 8,000 members, including some from Bermuda. A past president and active member of the Foxcroft Academy Key Club, she also organized a monthly newsletter for the district and organized and published a directory for the entire district that includes every club and every club officer.
‘’Key Club is really a big part of my life,’’ McDermott said. She said she had contributed close to 300 hours of service since her freshman year.
This summer, McDermott is vying to become International Vice President of Key Club, which has 250,000 members worldwide. Elections will be held in June and July in Phoenix.
