Students from Jay and Livermore Falls school systems voted Tuesday to named their soon-to-be consolidated middle school and high school after a local mountain.
Spruce Mountain High School and Middle School topped second-place Androscoggin Valley 668-422 in the voting, with Tri-Town also receiving consideration.
The schools’ mascot will be the Phoenix, which topped Spartans, Timberwolves and Bobcats in the balloting.
The school’s colors will be black and green, drawing from the black and orange of Jay and the green and yellow of Livermore Falls.
Schools from the three communities will combine as Regional School Unit 73 as of July 1, and the students’ name and school color recommendations are subject to the approval of the RSU 73 board of directors that will be elected on April 19.
