Olympia Sports to open Houlton store in late April

HOULTON, Maine — Sports enthusiasts rejoice. The Houlton area soon will be home to a new sporting goods store.

Olympia Sports has announced plans to open its 30th location in the state with a grand opening ceremony Wednesday, April 27, in the Shiretown. Located at the former Movie Gallery store on North Road, next to Rite Aid, Olympia Sports plans to hire two full-time and nine part-time employees. It will be the 187th Olympia Sports outlet nationwide.

“Olympia Sports has developed a very strong loyal customer base in the Northeast region since opening its first location in South Portland, Maine in 1975,” said Dick Coffey, president of Olympia Sports.

The retail sporting goods company features an assortment of national brand merchandise in sports equipment, fitness equipment and apparel, athletic footwear, popular sports-leisure wear and accessories.

In celebration of the new store opening, Olympia Sports will have a 20 percent off entire purchase Grand Opening Sale that will run from April 27 through May 3. Free Olympia Sports T-shirts will be given to the first 150 customers. Through May 3, residents also can enter to win a $500 Olympia Sports gift card. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

“Through carefully planned marketing strategies, we have produced a successful chain of over 180 stores in the Northeast, with plans for future growth,” Coffey said.
