Standish Marine found dead in Arizona

The Associated Press

YUMA, Ariz. — Authorities have confirmed that a U.S. Marine who was reported missing last week has been found dead in an irrigation canal in Yuma, Ariz.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office says the body of 22-year-old Cpl. Joshua Barron of Standish, Maine, was discovered by a farmer on Monday. Sheriff’s Capt. Eben Bratcher says Barron had his name tattooed on his shoulder.

The 22-year-old Barron was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, where he was a Harrier jet mechanic.

Bratcher says no foul play is suspected but an autopsy is planned for Wednesday.

The Marine Corps plans a memorial service on Thursday.
