‘Hoop-E Pies’ on sale

Whoopie pies and high school basketball are popular in Maine, so organizers of the fledgling Maine Basketball Hall of Fame are drawing attention to each and its effort establish a basketball hall by promoting “Hoop-E Pies” at Frank’s Bakery in Bangor.

The pies are being sold with red filling and purple filling as a way of congratulating the Eastern Maine Class A basketball champs, the Bangor boys and Hampden girls, who are playing for state titles Saturday in Augusta. The pie’s wrapper wishes good luck to the teams on one side and has the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame logo on the flip side.
