Chamber to hold wine, cheese chat

By Shari Closter, Special to the BDN

The Penobscot Bay Region Chamber of Commerce will hold its first Wine, Cheese & Chamber Chat 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, March 3. The event will be hosted and sponsored by Midcoast Federal Credit Union, 209 New County Rd. (Route 1)  in Thomaston.  We invite members of the local business community to join our staff, board and members for an evening of networking and exchanging ideas.

There’s no question that we all are conducting business in challenging economic times. During a short evening program, we’ll introduce you to our chamber staff and board. You’ll hear stories from some of our members on how they have leveraged their chamber benefits to optimize their membership investments, and we hope to hear from Thomaston-St. George area businesses about the triumphs and challenges they are experiencing.

Our staff and board serve on committees such as the Knox Waldo Regional Economic Development Council and the Rockland Economic Development Advisory Committee, and we attend numerous community and networking events throughout the year. Holding events like Chamber Chat helps us to further understand the needs of the area business community while helping that same business community better understand our efforts to strengthen our regional economy and support local businesses.

Space is limited for this event, so if you are already a member of the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber, please let us know if you would like to attend and share your success stories and information about your business. If you are not a chamber member, we invite you to join us for wine, cheese and a little Chamber chat. For more information, call Robin at 596-0376 or e-mail robin@TheRealMaine.com.

Another coming event is our Midcoast Business Forum. Representatives from Maine’s Department of Economic & Community Development and the Department of Labor will speak 8:30-10 a.m. Friday, March 4, at the Rockport Opera House. The event will showcase the business and work force programs offered by agencies that might be of benefit to businesses here in the Midcoast.

Mark Ouellette, director of the Office of Business Development for the DECD, and Christina Sklarz-Libby, labor development specialist from the DOL, will present the programs and answer questions. The event is open to all businesses in the Midcoast area and is presented by Knox Waldo Regional Economic Development, Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce and Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce. For more information, e-mail Justin Homes at justin@kwred.org. Preregistration is not required.

Shari Closter is the interim executive director of the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce. For more information, call 596-0376, e-mail shari@therealmaine.com or visit www.TheRealMaine.com.
