Farnsworth Art Museum to honor photographer Paul Caponigro

ROCKLAND, Maine — The Farnsworth Art Museum is honoring a renowned landscape photographer for his contribution to Maine’s role in American art.

The Rockland museum says Paul Caponigro is the recipient of its 2011 Maine in America Award. The award will be presented during the museum’s Summer Gala on June 25.

The 78-year-old Caponigro is considered one the nation’s foremost landscape photographers. Throughout his career, he has shown his works in museums and galleries the world over.

Caponigro came to Maine in the summers as a boy, and his first photographs in Maine date from the beginning of his career in the late 1950s. He has lived in Maine year-round since 1993.
