An educational, something for the sweet tooth, winter fun weekend is on tap in Monson and Greenville this weekend as both communities roll out festivities to fill the tummies and exercise the bodies.
At 6 p.m. Friday, the Moosehead Riders Snowmobile Club will feature a “Chili, Chowder and More” cook-off with individual entries welcome. The cook-off will be held at the clubhouse on Scammon Road in Greenville.
On Saturday, the snowmobile club will hold its lucky run and annual “Cook Out-Cook In” at the clubhouse. Participants will ride their snowmobiles to designated places to pick up entry forms, then return to the clubhouse for a 3 p.m. drawing. Deep fried turkey and more will be offered after the lucky run. For information, call 695-4561.
The annual Snowroller Day will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday in Monson. A public breakfast served from 7 to 9 a.m. will be followed by winter games, including downhill sled races, a snowshoe race, ski toss and snowshoe jump rope. Weather permitting, a skating race also will be held.
Other activities in Monson on Saturday include an amateur photograph contest, dog sled rides, snowmobile poker run, outdoor equipment show, face painting, chili contest and lunch, cribbage tournament, bonfire, tug of war and a dance. On Sunday in Greenville, all things chocolate will be offered at 1 p.m. at the Masonic Hall at the annual Moosehead Lake Chocolate Festival sponsored by the Moosehead Lake Region Chamber of Commerce.
Patrons will be able to choose 12 samples from a selection of 40 chocolate desserts. There will be a table for children offering food and prizes. A Chinese auction also will be held during the festival. For information, call the Chamber at 695-2702.
