HAMPDEN, Maine — A Winterport woman was arrested and charged with drunken driving early Monday morning after her Toyota SUV left the roadway and struck a utility pole on Main Road North.

After Hampden emergency medical personnel checked to make sure she wasn’t injured, Elizabeth Young, 29, was taken to Penobscot County Jail. She was released on bail later in the day, Hampden police Officer Marc Egan said Monday evening.

Egan said the incident occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. The pole was broken in half, and Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. repair crews briefly had to shut off power in the neighborhood so the pole could be replaced, he said.
