Man hurt filming snowmobile stunt in Windham

The Associated Press

WINDHAM, Maine — Maine game wardens say a New York City snowmobiler got more than he bargained for when he drove a friend’s machine over a snowbank in the town of Windham.

Officials say Carlo Trovato of Staten Island had planned to ride a snowmobile over a three-foot snowbank Sunday afternoon while the friend filmed the stunt.

But Trovato went too fast and he flew 20- to 25-feet through the air.

Rick Stone of the Maine Warden’s Service says that when the snowmobile touched down it hit the submerged frame of a horseshoe box, tossing the machine to the right.

Stone says Trovato hit his head on the branch of a tree.

Stone tells the Portland Press Herald the accident was caused by speed and operator inexperience.

Trovato likely suffered a concussion.
