ELLSWORTH, Maine — A New Jersey man accused of committing arson and a Waltham resident suspected in a burglary spree last summer are among 14 people indicted Thursday by a Hancock County grand jury.
Corey Seward, 19, of Burlington, N.J., was indicted on charges of arson and aggravated criminal mischief. Arson is a Class A crime punishable by up to 30 years in jail and a fine of $50,000 or less.
According to police, Seward is suspected of setting fire to a shed and portable toilet in Bucksport last fall.
The incident happened Nov. 17, 2010, at a Maine Department of Transportation construction site on the corner of Mill and Main streets where DOT crews were working on a bridge, Bucksport police said last month. The fire destroyed a DOT shed and a rented portable toilet, causing approximately $12,000 in damage, police said.
Adam M. Gray, 27, of Waltham was indicted Thursday on charges of burglary and theft. Gray also was indicted last October on multiple counts of burglary and theft in connection with an alleged burglary spree in several Hancock County municipalities last summer. The four additional charges tacked on Thursday, two each for burglary and theft, stem from an incident that happened Aug. 23, 2010, in Blue Hill. Gray also is suspected of committing burglaries in Deer Isle, Ellsworth, Orland and Sedgwick, police have indicated.
