Shoeless man charged with footwear theft

Brewer police summoned a Bangor man on a theft charge Friday after he allegedly tried to steal shoes from the Walmart store off Wilson Street.

After he was confronted by Walmart loss prevention personnel, Scott Langton, 32, of Bangor reportedly fled the store, leaving behind the shoes he’s accused of trying to steal and the old ones he arrived in, Brewer police Cpl. Nelson Feero said Friday.

Though Langton was gone by the time Brewer police Officer Eduardo Oliveira and Feero arrived, they quickly located the suspect based on a description of him and the white four-door sedan he was driving as well as information about his direction of travel.

When they located Langton’s car on State Street near the Twin City Plaza, he was in his stocking feet, Feero said. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)

A Bangor man was summoned Thursday night after a woman reported that a man was peeping into the windows of her residence on Fourth Street.

Though she did not know who the man was, a neighbor who was outside parking his car at the time recognized him as Bradley Cooper, 35, of Bangor, Bangor police Sgt. James Buckley said Friday, citing a police report.

Police officers went to Cooper’s residence and questioned him, Buckley said. Though Cooper denied looking into the woman’s windows, police summoned him on a violation of privacy charge. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)

A complaint about bad driving that originated in Orrington led to the arrest of a Bucksport man in Brewer on Thursday night.

Brewer police and personnel from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department were looking for a blue Subaru that reportedly was being driven erratically Thursday when Brewer police Sgt. Levi Sewall found it in the parking lot of Lowe’s on Wilson Street shortly after 10 p.m., Brewer police Capt. Jason Moffitt said Friday.

When Sewall stopped in to investigate, he learned the driver, 29-year-old Ryan Leith, was out on bail and searched his vehicle. During the search, Sewall found a plastic bag containing a usable amount — 9 grams — of marijuana.

Leith was arrested for violating the conditions of his release, Moffitt said. Leith also was charged with possession of marijuana. Leith, who was taken to Penobscot County Jail, was released Friday. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
