Police investigating death of 2-year-old

BELFAST, Maine — A detective from the Maine State Police Criminal Investigation Division is looking into the death Sunday of a 2-year-old child, a police official confirmed Monday.

An official at Waldo County General Hospital said a child had died there but was unable to give any other information.

“There was a 2-year-old who was transported to our hospital and passed away,” Andrea Walker, community services manager at the hospital, said Monday. “That’s all I can confirm.”

Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said he did not have firsthand knowledge of the matter but that police in Maine investigate the deaths of all children younger than 3.

“Obviously, we are investigating,” he said. “That’s not unusual in and of itself.”
