The population variance granted five years ago to the Penobscot and Kennebec County jails allowing them to take more inmates will expire on Jan. 1. The Maine Department of Transportation has determined that the International Bridge connecting Fort Kent to Clair, New Brunswick, is no longer structurally safe for truck traffic. It is slated to be closed to truck traffic as of Jan. 4. This means truck traffic will have to detour, presumably through Madawaska. What do locals think of this? Reporter: Julia Bayly

The Bangor city council is prepared to begin accepting proposals from private management firms to assume management of a new arena complex once it’s built. The city wants to have the company on board before construction to help with the process. Reporter: Eric Russell

For the second straight year, the Bangor Camping and RV Show has been canceled. One of three scheduled vendors pulled out, organizers said. Bass Park Director Mike Dyer said the decision was made to scrap the show rather than hold one that people would complain about. Reporter: Dawn Gagnon

In our Lifestyle section, we offer a story on the Courthouse Gallery in Ellsworth, which is traveling to Florida with a collection of artwork from Maine artists to display at the 14th annual Palm Beach international art fair.
