Someone called Orono police Sunday afternoon to report that they saw a couple of people in the old Striar textile mill on Ayers Island. When police arrived they found and arrested two men, Capt. Josh Ewing said Monday.
Ryan King, 34, and Lance Hill, 30, both from Manchester, N.H., were seen crawling out of a hole in the wall, the captain said. The mill was constructed in 1890 and last operated in October 1996.
Both King and Hill were charged with criminal trespassing and taken to the Penobscot County Jail. King, who was out on bail, also was charged with violating his bail conditions, Ewing said. Both men later were released from jail, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
An Old Town police cruiser was hit late Friday by another vehicle, damaging the cruiser enough to take it out of commission, Orono police Capt. Josh Ewing said Monday.
Orono investigated the crash for the Old Town Police Department, he said.
“The other car failed to yield,” Ewing said. “The cruiser is out of service.”
Old Town police Sgt. Travis Roy was driving on Center Street and was hit by a driver leaving Fourth Street, the captain said. Whether any charges were filed is not known, Ewing said, adding that Old Town police would handle that part of the case. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
