Maine women’s hockey downs Robert Morris


PITTSBURGH — Brittany Dougherty scored her ninth goal of the season and also had a pair of assists, including one on Dawn Sullivan’s third-period game-winner, as the University of Maine women’s ice hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to four games with a 4-2 victory over Robert Morris Friday night.

Maine is now 6-6-2 overall, including 2-0-2 in its last four games. Robert Morris fell to 2-12.

The teams will play again today at 2.

Sophomore goalie Brittany Ott made 42 saves as the Colonials outshot the Black Bears 44-15.

Sullivan broke a 2-2 tie with a power-play goal at the 7:49 mark of the final period. Dougherty and Danielle Ward picked up assists.

Myriam Croussette added an insurance goal with 2:50 left. Ashley Norum and Dougherty notched assists.

Dayna Newsom staked Robert Morris to a 1-0 lead in the first period, but Missy Denk answered later in the period.

Dougherty gave Maine a 2-1 lead 1:02 into the second period, but Sara O’Malley scored on the power play at the 8:44 mark.

Croussette had an assist to go with her goal as did Robert Morris’ O’Malley.

The Colonials’ Daneca Butterfield and Kristen DiCiocco combined for 11 saves.
