PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A Presque Isle man was taken to a local hospital Monday night for treatment of injuries he suffered when the pickup truck he was driving crashed into a house.
Michael Shapiro, 26, was taken to The Aroostook Medical Center, Officer Peter Johnson of the Presque Isle Police Department said. While information about Shapiro’s medical condition wasn’t available late Monday, Johnson said Shapiro’s injuries weren’t considered life-threatening.
The crash happened about 7 p.m., while Shapiro was traveling west on Park Street, Johnson said. Shapiro’s 2008 GMC Sierra pickup drifted into the opposite lane, left the roadway and struck a utility pole, he said. It then continued traveling west, crossing Parson Street, where it struck the front corner of a house at 39 Parson St.
The house was vacant at the time, Johnson said.
Shapiro, who had no passengers, was wearing a seat belt when the accident happened, Johnson said. He said that the Sierra was demolished and that the pole Shapiro struck was broken. The house had minor damage, Johnson said.
