ORONO, Maine — The search to replace outgoing Orono Town Manager Cathy Conlow is officially on.
Conlow, who will take over as Bangor city manager on Nov. 29, is staying on for the next three weeks to ease the transition as Assistant Town Manager Maria Weinberger gets up to speed as interim town manager.
Orono will conduct a national search for a permanent replacement.
“The Town Council hired Eaton Peabody Consulting to conduct a search for a new town manager,” Conlow said. “Don Gerrish, who was once Brunswick town manager, is in charge of the search and I believe they’re in the process of finishing and publishing an ad for the job.”
Conlow said town officials are shooting for having a finalist named around January.
“I believe their time frame for naming my successor is sometime in midwinter,” she said Monday, adding that the Town Council will have to confirm any finalist.
There will be plenty to occupy Weinberger and whoever Conlow’s permanent replacement is as Orono moves forward on a 1.8-acre redevelopment project, decides how to utilize a federal grant for planning on the Kelley Road interchange, and launches a new and improved town website, among other things.
