Portland, Maine, police aim to clean up neighborhood

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — Police in Portland say they’re going to crack down on drug dealers and other criminal activity in the Grant Street neighborhood.

Police Chief James Craig held a news conference Monday on Grant Street in front of a building that police say has become a magnet for drug users and people drinking in public.

Craig was flanked at the news conference by elected officials and members of the Community Services initiative.

Craig says police and other city officials will work together to take back the neighborhood.

He says people involved in unlawful activity need to hear loud and clear that they’re not welcome and police will be there to ensure it stops.
